Multiple Intelligence Theory

Idea

Developed by Brock Prize Laureate, Howard Gardner, Multiple Intelligence Theory (MI) differentiates intelligence into specific (primarily sensory) “modalities,” which include: musical–rhythmic, visual–spatial, verbal–linguistic, logical–mathematical, bodily–kinesthetic, interpersonal, intrapersonal, naturalistic, existential and moral.

Impact

MI Theory has been embraced and adopted on an enormous scale throughout the entire spectrum of education.  The consequences of MI Theory in education have been recognized as so fundamental and pervasive that many K-12 schools worldwide have been founded based on these principles, and there are several institutes devoted to the continued development and application of MI theory.
